History of Aethyria
Aethyria has a rich and storied history, from its founding to the modern federation.
Originally an ethnic group a part of the Teutonic Order, Aethyria became an independent state after it fought 3 bloody revolutions, 2 of which failed. Finally on April 26th 1374 The Kingdom Of Aethyria was established on the islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, eventually incorporating Vormsi, Muhu, as well as some small minor islands within the gulf of Riga after negotiations with the Order. The two major islands were renamed to Corvessa (saaremaa) and Thaloria (Hiiumaa). Aethyria remained a somewhat peaceful nation with the occasional dispute with either Estonia over islands or Denmark over Gotland. This stayed until tensions rose in 1659 with Sweden after they took Gotland from Denmark and mistreatment of the Aethyrish peoples in Gotland. Aethyria argued that the Aethyrish population of Gotland was being repressed and being treated as 2nd class citizens. This caused Aethyria to go to war with the Kingdom of Sweden, which they obviously lost and ended up putting them under Swedish rule until 1721 with the Russian invasion of Sweden in the great northern war. After negotiations with the Russians the Aethyrish people were given independence and the island of Gotland. Things were peaceful all the way until the second world war (Stayed out of the first one). The Nazis invaded Aethyria through Sweden in 1940. The Nazis then used Aethyria as a port to help invade the Soviets. World War Two still ended with a German loss. The soviets, while not annexing Aethyria, still installed a communist puppet government and forced them to join the Warsaw Pact. Aethyria became the first to revolt against communism in 1986 when the monarchy was reestablished. However the monarchy run by King Mikaeli was growing ever more powerful and took more and more power away from the people. This severely angered the citizens of Aethyria and in 1993 a revolt against the monarchy occurred that lasted until 1995 with the overthrowing of the monarchy then establishing the Federation of Aethyria. Yet another civil war occurred in 2002 over the president allegedly supporting terrorists and being at the forefront of mass corruption. The Aethyrish presidential crisis ended in 2003 with a new president being elected and a congress like system established to keep him in check. In 2008 after the Russian invasion of Georgia, Aethyria, fearing they were next, began a process of rapid militarization. Aethyria aligned with neither the west or east and preferred to be completely self-reliant however they were much closer to the west than east. This along with other factors allowed Aethyria to create an extremely strong military. Particularly in the air with the government funded company AK Industries and their K series of fighters being some of the most advanced in eastern Europe and one of the most advanced in the world. When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 Aethyria sent 2 K609a supersonic stealth fighters to Ukraine and since then had improved upon the design with the k609b, c, and d as well as becoming closer to the west.
